The Importance of Prewriting
Writing fosters the ability to explain and refine ideas to others and ourselves. It is the ability to write meaningful sentences, lines, paragraphs which a reader can easily understand. It is a perfect way to express one’s views, thoughts, and feelings about a particular thing. But, what do we mean by prewriting? Prewriting can be done in a number of ways; it is outlining, clustering, freewriting, listing, diagrams, etc. Prewriting is one of the most important parts of submitting a successful piece of writing.
Sometimes, we have trouble starting with our writing because we do not know where and what to start and this is the time where prewriting comes in as an essential way. Indeed, prewriting speeds up the writing process by allowing us to think more clearly about our task. It is very important because: it aids the development of clear thinking of writers, it assists writers in identifying weak points in claims, it improves productivity by assisting the writer in mapping out, planning, or brainstorming their writing before starting the first draft, it helps to organize writer's thoughts and it aids a writer in processing the order of their thoughts in order to efficiently arrange them for their audience.
To be specific, prewriting helps students shape more coherent and well-developed thoughts when they prewrite their essays. Students will have time to think about what they want to write and say about the subject during prewriting. It also enables them to decide how many sentences each paragraph would contain. Another, it helps students achieved the concept of organization. Students can arrange all of their paragraphs more easily when they prewrite. Furthermore, it allows them to choose how they want to present their ideas and in what order they should be presented. In short, it will help students determine what belongs in their paragraphs and what does not. Third, prewriting will also help learners avoid errors. It can help students avoid grammatical and mechanical errors in making final drafts. Lastly, it helps students develop their writing in terms of content, organization, and expression, as well as their motivation and creativity when it comes to writing.
As a student, I found how important prewriting is. It helps me how to develop clear reasoning. It improves my productivity by assisting me in mapping out, planning, or brainstorming my writing before starting the first draft. It one of the ways for me to develop organization in terms of writing something especially for educational purposes. Furthermore, as a future educator, I will teach students how to use a range of prewriting techniques so they can find one that fits best for them. With this, I will incorporate strategy instruction during the prewriting stage of the writing process which will give me hope that I will be able to develop self-regulating students. Again, prewriting is important to have a successful entire writing output.
